Amazon and Google beat Apple to the smart home speaker space. Now they can make room for HomePod, featuring the voice of Siri and the musical chops of Apple Music.

Announced at Apple’s worldwide developers conference last June, HomePod features bigger speakers for optimal music playback and integrates with Siri, the company’s digital assistant and other services, such as Apple Music. Starting Friday, it’s avaialable to order in select markets, with U.S. sales

While on a brief visit to Toronto this week, Apple CEO Tim Cook commented to Canada’s Financial Post newspaper about the long-awaited launch of the HomePod, “Competition makes all of us better and I welcome it.”

“We think one thing that was missing from this market was a quality audio experience, a very immersive audio experience,” he added. “Music deserves that kind of quality as opposed to some kind of squeaky sound.”
